Yesterday, I went swimming for the first time in years. I learnt

that bathers are frail things

that there needs to be a really slow lane

that I like to float

but that I don’t have a natural buoyancy

that I no longer care what I look like in bathers

or what I look like when I’m out of my bathers (accidentally, just for a few seconds)

that gliding underwater, for a while, stops the world
